When Should Kids Learn to Code?

Kids should start to learn to code as soon as possible. Since not all children have the same learning curve it varies from child to child.

You can expect a toddler to be interested in coding games as soon as 2 years old, others start from 4 years and above.

Obviously, this depends dramatically on the upbringing of the child, some studies suggest that the longer the child is held of mobile devices the likelier they are to start learning in-depth coding by the age of 8 and above.

Children that have contact with mobile devices early on, do not develop these skills as fast since the technology does not seem that interesting by the age of 8 they might be more focused on content than the technical aspect.

I’m assuming you googled When Should Kids Learn to Code?

because you’re trying to figure out if you should start getting your children involved in coding.

In general, you should be paying attention to your child’s interests. and remember not every child learns the same.

Coding Languages for Kids

As parents, you must have concerned about what coding language is more beneficial for your child to start learning.

¨There is no coding language that rules them all¨

At this time you don’t have to be very careful about what language your child starts to learn what really counts, after all, is said and done, it’s the ability and proficiency that the child has in that specific language.

You look for the best in one specific area. ( that is where you should guide the child, to be as good as he can in the area that he enjoys much)

20 Hours To Learn Any Skill

If you are worried about how long can it take for your child to be fluent in a coding language, well that has many variables some you may control, such as time spent learning, the style of learning, and others, but some of the variables you may not control. and experts can give you an estimate on how long, but no one can measure the capabilities of an individual.

¨An if you ask me that is one of the best things of life, not knowing¨

How To Motivate Your Child.

A lot of studies, have given the results that you cannot create motivation in somebody else, and this also applies to children.

There is a sense of danger when highly motivated parents think they can lay their motivation on to their children.

We have to understand that motivation is internal, and there is no big mystery about it.

But if you are like me and like to have the formula in actions so can apply it here it is ¨Activity and a sense of accomplishment that gives you satisfaction equals Motivation¨

So if you want to identify when people are unmotivated you can see that the formula is ¨Activity with stress and pressure equals NOT WANTING TO DO IT¨

So if we want to motivate our children what we have to do is to create an environment where they can be successful and feel good about what they are doing.

And that is the internal set up for auto motivation in children, but for this, you have to set some time with the child so you can ask what is he excited about doing.

what is bringing him the most satisfaction?

An easy tip to know what motivates them is to listen to them on what they repetitively want to do, there is a micro task in any big task this is enough to motivate them.

An example could be when your kid is drawing he might not actually like it but the coloring step is the one that he most enjoys so he might do the drawing just to get to the coloring part.

As adults we do this as well, a part of the task is unmotivating but when we get to the little task that we enjoy and know that we do well that’s where our internal motivation kicks in.

What Is the Best Age for Kids to Start Learning to Code on Their Phone?

Finding the best age for kids to start learning coding on a phone depends on various factors, including their interest, cognitive abilities, and parental guidance. While some experts suggest starting around 7-8 years old, others believe it’s more suitable during adolescence. Ultimately, it’s important to ensure age-appropriate resources, a balanced screen time, and opportunities for hands-on coding experiences beyond the phone.

Coding Will Become a Skill That is Required Such As Microsoft Office.

Yes, I want to point this out and emphasize as much as possible that it may not be a skill necessary to function in society but actually how many people do you know that do not know how to use Microsoft office or at least 3 of the programs in it.

and maybe specialize in one of them such as word or excel.

So please understand the importance of coding, or at least understand how it works even if you don´t use it on a day-to-day basis.

Knowing how to respond to a question like, what operating system do you like and why will be normal questions in job interviews.

Side note, one of the most common conversation starters among millennials is, what apps do you use on a daily basis or what do you have on your phone to do (random task)?

You don’t have to know it all, but it’s useful to know a bit.

I hope this post helps you with your question When Should Kids Learn to Code? If you found it useful please share the content with anyone you think this might bring value to.
