Microphones were initially used to amplify an individual’s voice when talking to a big crowd. There has never been a more important time for a reliable microphone since more video calls are taking place than ever.

The built-in microphone on your PC or laptop might be your only option if you don’t have decent headphones.

In the beginning, microphones were called megaphones, but today they are used for a wide range of purposes, including recording sound for educational and professional video making, through a variety of applications and devices.

A laptop microphone may either be an external microphone or an internal microphone.

Laptop Microphones

External microphones: is a device that sits outside your computers, such as one mounted on a desktop or a headset.

The most basic definition of an external microphone is that it relies on your sound card or USB port.

Internal Microphones: built into laptop bodies or the bezels of laptop screens are internal microphones as the name implies.

In order to locate them physically, you need to look for a few adjacent small holes. In most cases, however, the software can help you locate them.

To proceed you can follow the instructions to locate.

Do laptops come with built in microphone?

Laptops may not always come with an internal microphone or a built-in webcam.

Visually inspecting the laptop’s case should allow you to see whether either device is installed.

In most laptops, the webcam and microphone are located in the top bezel.

How To Check If Your Laptop Has a Microphone?

It is easy and simple to check the microphone on a laptop. To understand the process, simply follow the steps listed below.

  1. To access the audio menu, right-click on the audio icon at the bottom-right corner of your laptop screen.
  2. Select ‘Open Sound Settings’. You will be taken to your Windows PC’s sound settings.
  3. You will then see the option to “Test your microphone”, and the settings application will then show a volume bar that indicates the results of the live microphone test.

What Causes a Microphone To Stop Working In a Laptop?

You can record your voice or use the microphone along with your webcam on most laptop computers designed with a microphone built into the bezel that surrounds the screen.

Since video calls have become a mandatory part of many professionals, students, and others’ lives during this time of the pandemic, it has become one of the most important aspects for all users.

There are users, though, who have problems with the microphone on their laptops.

Various software and hardware problems can cause laptop microphones to stop working, including issues with the setting, configuration, and driver conflicts.

In order to fix this, we must first determine what is causing the problem.

A bad microphone driver:

An out-of-date or corrupted microphone driver will cause the microphone to malfunction.

A microphone’s settings and configuration:

Frequently, a muted microphone or incorrect microphone configuration is the culprit.

Mic hardware failure:

There may have been a defect in your microphone, or it may simply have aged or the wiring may have been the root cause.

How to Fix Laptop Microphone Issues?

I’m sure you are familiar with the frustration of being in the middle of an important conversation and suddenly your conversation partner cannot hear you.

Our phones are always in use, so when the microphone malfunctions, it can be very inconvenient for us.

Make Sure To Reboot Your Laptop:

A third-party app installed on your device can cause problems with your phone’s microphone if it uses the microphone.

Putting your mobile device through a series of checks and deleting apps one after the other is a tedious and time-consuming process, restarting your mobile device can solve your microphone problem.

Check The Sound Settings:

Ensure that your microphone is not muted. It is possible that the microphone mute switch on your laptop was accidentally flipped or pushed, causing the problem.

The problem can be fixed by flipping the switch or pushing the button. Your device’s sound settings may have a low or muted call or media volume.

Check them.

You may simply boost your device’s media volume and call volume if that is the case.

In your sound preferences, your microphone might also be muted. Here’s how to check:

  1. Go to the Control Panel.
  2. Select Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording.
  3. Right click your microphone, and click Properties > Levels.
  4. If the microphone icon has a crossed out red circle next to it, click it to unmute.

Access The Microphone From Your App

It is possible to limit access to the microphone to certain apps for privacy reasons.

You might receive a sound such as a microphone not working if your conferencing or chat app does not have permission.

Here’s what you need to do to fix the problem:

  1. In the search bar of Windows, type microphone.
  2. Go to Microphone privacy settings.
  3. Click on setting that allows apps to access your microphone.
  4. If your app does not have permission, scroll down and allow it.

Run The Sound Troubleshooter

In addition to checking and fixing audio issues, this automated sound troubleshooter may be able to resolve your mic issue.

You can then check your microphone working after it has completely run its course.

Run the troubleshooter by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Control Panel.
  2. On the Troubleshooting tab, click Hardware and Sound > Recording,
  3. Follow the instructions onscreen after you click Next.

Check for audio driver updates.

If you have an out-of-date or bad microphone driver, your microphone will not work properly. Whenever you install a driver or replace your driver, you must restart your computer for the changes to take full effect.

Can I Upgrade the Microphone on my MSI Laptop?

If you’re thinking about ramping up your msi laptop’s performance, upgrading the microphone can make a noticeable difference. A higher-quality microphone will enhance your audio experience during video calls, gaming sessions, or content creation. Consider checking compatibility and researching reputable brands to find the best microphone that suits your needs. Upgrade with ease and enjoy better sound quality on your MSI laptop.

When everything else fails, consult a professional

After physically examining your laptop microphone, if it still does not work and nothing appears amiss, it might be worth taking it to a technician. There could have been a problem with the microphone that you are unable to see just by looking at it, or there could be another problem requiring professional repair services.
